train    your    dog    by    yourself

German Shepherds have to be trained. They are very easy to train, because they are eager to please - that's a key for successful training. They say that it takes 5 times training a command for GSD to learn it, it seems to be true, but don't forget about reinforcement - GSD are smart like velociraptors and will test you for consistency.
It's best if you can train your dog by yourself. It forms great bond between you and your dog. We post here videos we find essential for new puppy training. As you may noticed, we absolutely fascinated with positive dog training approach of Outback Dog Training: these methods are easy, intuitive and work like magic. He has much more videos not listed here, feel free to discover them on your own.
Sit, Stand, Down Luring
Great exercise to start with your puppy as you bring them home. Notice how easy puppy learns three different commands at the same time?

Pressure and Release
Single the most useful exercise to help with your dog leashing. It does not take long - 5-10 minutes a day practice for several days and you will see magic happen. Notice, he states that this exercise is for dogs, who do not have pulling habits yet. Like it's perfect new puppy conditioning/training exercise. I add link to the whole playlist Stop Pulling and Basic Leash Techniques in case you already have a problem walking on the leash and need some remediation

Leave It

Ok, this is a must do training for every dog, especially, GSD. You will not believe how great it is to walk around D&B Supplies with all their low stored unpacked treats and see your puppy dog heed no attention to them! We lived this experience and can attest that it’s amazing!
Linked is a course of 11 videos, do them in this order for few days and to 100%. You will notice that your dog is learning not just Leave it, but also Focus on you, Impulse control and just general obedience. By the end of 11 videos course, your pup will be best behaved puppy on the block. Do not rush through! Take your time, it will pay off!
Below is the first video and here is the whole Leave it playlist

Teach Your Dog To Do Nothing
This is absolutely awesome exercise, and it does not take much "designated" time. You can do it while watching TV, reading a book, supervising your children on a playground or watching next Outback Dog Training video on DIY dog training :)

Capturing Calm
Capturing calm should totally come after Teach your dog to do nothing, it will definitely make it much easier. This exercise is extremely weary to do for the first time. It takes awhile your pup/dog (it’s never too late to do first time) to understand what you want them to do, be well rested for 10-15 min standing not moving at all. Make sure nobody comes around - other pets, kids... Second time will be much better, I promise!
DO NOT LOOK AT THEM! One look and they get all rallied up again. Key here is - no command needed. The effect you get: when you take your dog somewhere and stop to chat with someone, look for a part on Home Depot shelf or just watching something going by, your dog will know what is expectation when you don’t pay attention to them. No command needed, just well behaved dog.
MUST DO for hyper dogs who are hard to control! Also good for any dog/pup as preventive measure and good manners development.
